80% of People Suffer from Gum Disease. We’re Here to Help.
Gum disease (also called periodontal disease) is characterized by swollen, inflamed gums. But many people who have gum disease don’t even realize it!
Gum disease occurs when bacteria-filled plaque sneaks between your gum line and teeth, hardening into a substance called tartar. The bacteria in the plaque and tartar lead to infections in your gums, creating deep pockets. As bacteria spread, the pockets become deeper, dissolving the bone holding your teeth in place and ultimately causing tooth loss.
Think of this process as if bugs are eating away at the soil around a tree trunk. Eventually, they’ll eat away all of the soil and part of the tree’s roots, causing the tree to collapse!
At Ericson Dental, we help prevent, diagnose, and stop gum disease. We offer various gum disease treatments to ensure your smile stays healthy and beautiful for years to come. Just remember: the earlier you spot signs of gum disease and take steps to stop it, the better.
After a diagnosis, a professional deep cleaning can remove the sources of infections and can often begin to reverse the process.
Often called root planing and scaling, this gum disease treatment involves carefully removing bacteria and substances that form in the pockets around the teeth.
The removal occurs on a microscopic level and requires great skill. Our dental team has had advanced training regarding how to effectively remove bacteria.
This process of removing the bacteria may require several visits to our office. Once the bacteria has been removed, the pockets must be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis by your dentist. Otherwise, the bacteria will return.
Periodontal laser therapy is a high-tech and proven method for helping to ensure the health of your gum tissue long term and stopping the damage done by periodontal disease.
We’re trained in specialized laser therapy. With laser bacterial reduction treatments, we’ll disinfect and eliminate gum-disease causing bacteria in your mouth.
This procedure is quite fast and we’ll numb your mouth ahead of time to ensure your total comfort.
Ongoing Preventive Care
Once you’ve contracted periodontal disease, you’ll always be susceptible to it returning. Careful daily hygiene and regular dental visits to clean your pockets are required to keep the bacteria at bay.
After your initial dental treatments — whether a deep cleaning or laser therapy — we’ll want to keep you on a regular “periodontal maintenance” appointment schedule.
Working together, we’ll keep your gums free of bacteria long term!
Healthy Gums Start at Home
Remember, it’s always better to prevent gum disease than to treat it! Gum health begins by adopting good dental hygiene habits at home. You should brush and floss regularly. And don’t forget to visit your dentist every 6 months for your preventive exam!
Best experience I have ever had. Really they took care of me and I am not a fan of dentists. I have had major dental work done and the office staff and dental assistants have been fantastic! If you need a dentist I recommend Ericson Dental all the way. I love Ericson Dental and will never go to another dentist.Lisa G.
Both Dr Ericson and Dr Baer are personable, kind, and most importantly, great dentists. The office environment is very inviting, and the staff are happy to be there. Dr Ericson is the first to know and learn about new techniques, and I find that very comforting and exciting. He really wants the best for his patients! Highly recommend.Shannon C. (FEB '16)
Dr Ericson and all of his staff are amazing. He is honest and gentle... Two important qualities for a dentist! And he's personable and easy to talk to. I always see Lisa for hygiene and love her! She is thorough and also very gentle. And she's really sweet. Not to mention the office is pretty posh! Highly recommend this office!Rachel H. (Apr '16)

I have been going to Dr Ericson for a few years now. It is always a great experience. They are all very friendly and professional. Dr Ericson is phenomenal and is always eager to talk to you and find out how you are doing and what you have been doing!Alex H. (Jan '16)
I have been pleased with the care I've received at Ericson Dental this past year. The staff is pleasant, the dentists are skilled, and the equipment is first rate. I had a cavity filled about 6 weeks ago. Dr. Ericson used a new machine which numbed only the tooth, not the surrounding tissue. No more walking around with a numb jaw. Sweet!Wayne I.
Dr. Baer and the other staff at Ericson Dental are amazing. This is one of the cleanest, most professional offices I've been to. It is very clean, there is no waiting past your appointment time, everyone is friendly, and clearly this whole team knows what they're doing and have worked together for some time. I highly recommend this dental office!Ryan O. (Jan '16)
